Product Description

Pinus pinaster, commonly known as Maritime Pine, Cluster Pine, or Ponderosa Pine, is a tall and graceful evergreen tree native to the coastal regions of Western and Southern Europe. This majestic pine species is renowned for its adaptability, robustness, and commercial value, making it an important tree in forestry, as well as a cherished feature in natural landscapes.

Maritime Pine is characterized by its tall, straight trunk that can reach impressive heights of 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30 meters) or more. Its bark is thick, reddish-brown, and deeply furrowed. The long, slender needles are arranged in clusters of two, measuring 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm) in length, and are usually dark green. This pine produces oval-shaped, woody cones that are initially green and mature to a light brown color. The cones contain edible seeds, known as pine nuts, which have culinary and nutritional value. Maritime Pine's elegant appearance and tolerance to coastal conditions make it a favored choice for coastal reforestation, windbreaks, and landscaping in regions with maritime climates.

Maritime Pine is also known for the extraction of resin from its bark, which has been historically used for a variety of purposes, including in the production of turpentine and rosin.

Overall, Pinus pinaster is celebrated for its contribution to forestry, its aesthetic appeal in natural and cultivated settings, and its ecological importance in coastal ecosystems where it provides habitat and stabilizes sandy soils.
