Product Description

Copiapoa cinerea form nuda is a striking, slow-growing cactus native to the coastal deserts of northern Chile. It features a globular to slightly columnar body that can reach up to 10-15 cm in height and 5-10 cm in diameter. Its skin is a smooth, blue-gray to silvery-gray, often with a waxy coating that helps protect it from the harsh sun. Unlike other forms, 'nuda' lacks spines or has very minimal, short spines. In summer, it produces small, yellow, funnel-shaped flowers that contrast beautifully with its smooth surface. This cactus is highly prized for its unique, smooth appearance and low maintenance requirements.

Cultivation

  • Soil: Use a well-draining cactus mix; a combination of sandy and gritty soil is ideal.
  • Watering: Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
  • Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; protect from intense midday sun.
  • Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures (20-30°C); can tolerate mild frost but should be protected from prolonged cold.
  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced, diluted cactus fertilizer during the growing season.
  • Pruning: Not necessary; remove spent flowers to maintain appearance.
  • Pests: Watch for mealybugs and spider mites; use insecticidal soap if needed.
  • Additional Care: Ensure good airflow around the plant to prevent fungal issues and promote healthy growth.
