Product Description

The radiant Agave titanota cv. Himawari (mediopicta yellow) is a highly coveted and visually electrifying cultivar of Agave titanota, named after the Japanese word for “sunflower” (ひまわり) due to its luminous yellow-centered foliage. This rare mediopicta variegated form displays broad, thick leaves with a saturated, buttery yellow central stripe flanked by cool grey-green to pale bluish edges. Each leaf is outlined with bold, angular marginal spines in bronze to chocolate-brown, evoking a fierce, stylized geometry. The compact rosette grows slowly, forming a near-perfect spiral with an almost architectural balance of color and form. Highly ornamental and rarely offered outside of specialist collections, Himawari combines desert resilience with exotic vibrancy, bringing a sun-kissed brilliance to dry gardens, patios, or collector pots. Its powdery, waxy coating enhances both its texture and UV protection, while the symmetrical rosette and brilliant contrast make it an exceptional centerpiece among Agaves. A stunning expression of botanical artistry and rarity.

Cultivation

Soil type: Use fast-draining cactus or succulent soil with added pumice or perlite to prevent rot.

Watering frequency: Allow soil to fully dry before watering; reduce significantly in winter.

Light exposure: Prefers full sun to partial shade; intense light enhances yellow variegation.

Temperature requirements: Best kept between 18–30 °C (64–86 °F); protect from frost below 5 °C (41 °F).

Fertilization: Feed monthly during growing season with diluted cactus fertilizer; avoid winter feeding.

Pruning: No pruning needed; remove any dried basal leaves carefully to retain structure.

Common pests: Watch for mealybugs, agave snout weevil, and scale insects; maintain airflow and inspect roots if replanting.

Other care practices: Avoid overwatering; rotate for even sun exposure and coloration development.
