Plant Description

A truly show-stopping cultivar, Agave guiengola cv. CREME BRULEE is a dramatic and sculptural succulent prized for its thick, fleshy leaves and exquisite variegation. Native to Oaxaca, Mexico, Agave guiengola is already known for its broad, silver-green foliage and open rosette form, but the CREME BRULEE cultivar elevates this species to collector status with its creamy yellow central bands and cool blue-gray leaf margins that deepen with age. Each leaf is wide and gently cupped, edged with delicate yet pronounced marginal teeth and a sharp terminal spine, giving the plant a distinctively architectural silhouette. As it matures, this slow-growing succulent can reach up to 60 cm in height and spread over 90 cm, forming a solitary rosette or producing occasional offsets. Its matte-textured leaves and rare color combination make it a favorite in modern xeriscapes and premium container displays. Exceptionally drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, Agave guiengola cv. CREME BRULEE is a rare treasure in ornamental plant collections due to its limited propagation and striking aesthetic contrast.

Cultivation

Soil type: Use a sharply draining, gritty cactus mix or sandy loam with excellent aeration.

Watering frequency: Water deeply but infrequently; allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to once every 4–6 weeks.

Light exposure: Prefers full sun to light shade; intense afternoon sun enhances coloration but may scorch in extreme heat without acclimatization.

Temperature requirements: Thrives between 18–32°C (64–90°F); protect from frost, as temperatures below 5°C (41°F) can cause damage.

Fertilization: Feed sparingly with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

Pruning: Minimal pruning needed; remove dead or damaged leaves at the base with sterilized tools.

Common pests: Watch for mealybugs, scale, and agave snout weevil; inspect regularly and treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap as needed.

Other care: Ensure container-grown plants have drainage holes. Avoid overhead watering to prevent crown rot. Repot every 3–4 years or when roots outgrow the container.
