H. rosa sinesis is the national flower of Malaysia, the five petals are said to symbolize five National principles: belief in God, loyalty to king and country, upholding the constitution, the rule of the law, and moral behaviour.

 

History

A stunning shrub originally thought to be indigenous to southeast Asia, but its origins are blurred by its wide distribution in cultivation. Most forms are derived from Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis which is believed to have originated in the topical Asia.

This variety is one of about 250 species of herbs, shrubs, and trees constituting the genus Hibiscus, a member of the mallow family (Malvaceae). It is native to warm temperate and tropical regions.

Outstanding Characteristics

There are cultivars with flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pink or red, often with a dark centre. The tropical Chinese hibiscus, or China rose (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), can reach an astounding height of 4.5 m (15 feet).
