The American genus Tradescantia (Commelinaceae) is named after the father and son team, the Tradescants, gardeners to King Charles I of England. They became the center of an influential hub of gardening friends.

 

History

Purple Dome is a member of the genus Tradescantia (family Commelinaceae), which is native to North and South America.

Outstanding Characteristics

These old-fashioned plants sometimes trail their foliagel in a rather messy way, but the flowers are so delightful and easy to care for that Purple Domes are one of the most popular border plants.

Growing conditions

Thrives in either sunny or shady spots, and dry or moist soil. Hardiness: US Zone 5, Canadian Zone 4.
